Is Upholstery a Lost Art?
Upholstery is said to be a lost art and you might ask yourself why that might be. The average age of an upholsterer is 45 years old, and most upholstery shop owners are around this same age or older, which does imply that it is a dying art, because no young people are learning this trade. In fact, most reputable upholstery shops in our region have been closed in the last decade due to retirement.
What most people nowadays don't realize is that furniture today is machine made with cheap materials and it is not made to last. Furniture today is only made to last a decade at the most. Furniture made in the mid 20th century or older were handmade with materials like real solid wood, horse hair, real cotton, springs, webbing and all the goods that contribute to a piece that will last you not only your lifetime but your children and even your children's children's lifetime, if reupholstered the right way.
Our team is dedicated to making sure your old piece with good bones will not only look brand new but will last you a very long time. We refuse to let this Art be extinct, and we will keep working hard to keep this trade alive for all our customers and new customers to keep enjoying their beautiful pieces for decades to come.
